What will the houses of the future look like?
The EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) binds us to the construction of Nearly Zero-Energy Buildings (NZEBs). After 2020, all buildings will have to meet the NZEB criteria, and from 31 December 2018 this applies to all buildings that will be built for the public sector. NZEB means a building with very high energy efficiency or a very small amount of energy needed for operation which is largely derived from renewable sources on site or in the vicinity of the facility.
In Slovenia, the preparation of new regulations for the energy performance of buildings reached the final phase, wherein strictly following the requirements of the European directive and, in parallel, the guidelines for sustainable construction. It is very important to take into account the entire life cycle of the building in question.
