Knauf Insulation from Škofja Loka has recently opened a new demonstration and training centre for practical and theoretical educational processes, as part of its business and production facilities, for various stakeholders in construction.
From the very beginning, the building was designed as a model example of sustainable construction. It was planned according to the BIM methodology and in accordance with the criteria of sustainable construction according to which it was certified, as it is the first Slovenian new construction with the acquired DGNB certificate. It is also the first Slovenian building which obtained the ACTIVE HOUSE certificate.

PILOT PROJECT
Due to the uniqueness of a sustainable approach, the project was already selected prior to construction as one of the pilot projects of the European Commission which is preparing the European sustainable construction guidelines called Level(s). The construction was also monitored by the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia during the process of preparing the Slovenian guidelines for sustainable construction. The company's experience with design, construction and use will thus be used as a feedback, in order for sustainable construction to become a standard in construction as soon as possible, both in Slovenia and in Europe.

SPECIAL FEATURES
The object itself represents an example. The built-in solutions on 832 m2 of usable surfaces show a whole range of advanced insulation solutions as well as the solutions of partner companies. On the brim, there are 6 different facade versions and three solutions of a flat and green roof. Knauf solutions for walls, ceilings and pavements are also included. Insulation, as an indispensable part of the construction method, must offer something more to the building and its users according to sustainable criteria, e.g. fire safety, acoustic insulation, vapor permeability, etc. In addition to the Knauf Group companies - Knauf Insulation, Knauf and Knauf AMP, the partnership includes Velux, Sika, Alukoenigstahl, Alkam, Seemelrock, Zumtobel, TEM and F. Leskovec. Each of them presents its advanced solutions in our new centre.

PURPOSE
The facility is originally intended for practical presentations of the implementation of insulation solutions of all types. The quality of construction performance is often reduced by the effectiveness of insulation materials and solutions. Training in this area is therefore necessary. The centre is thus intended for practical, as well as classical, digital and virtual forms of education, which is enabled by its high-tech equipment. In the centre, different target groups from Slovenia and the rest of the world are expected, to which the content of educational programs will be adapted.
The ultimate goal of the centre, the name of which, Knauf Insulation Experience Center, reflects their international ambitions, is to raise awareness of sustainable construction, which will increase demand for it. On the other hand, they want to make sure that this type of construction will also be properly designed and implemented in practice. With their activities, they want to cover the whole range of stakeholders in construction, both locally and internationally. All with the aim of improving the quality of living of the users of the facility.
The newly created centre is a live example of the operation of the Knauf Insulation company, based on Challenge.Create.Care. principle which is also the slogan of the company.

SUSTAINABLE BUILDING
The often-used concept of sustainable construction certainly still needs some clarification at this stage. Sustainability is based on three main pillars: ecology, economics and society. In order to obtain sustainable construction, we must additionally include technical quality, process quality, while taking into account the quality of the site. Sustainable construction represents the optimal ratio of these six criteria.
